Napier

Napier, New Zealand – 2017. Napier is on the coast of Hawke’s Bay on New Zealand’s North Island. It is known for its many art deco buildings in the downtown area, the many wineries and orchards in the surrounding hills, its waterfront promenade and the Norfolk pines that line the Marine Parade. In 1931 an earthquake destroyed most of Napier and Hastings. Both were later rebuilt in the Art Deco style that was popular at the time. In the 1990’s their architectural importance was recognized and many of these buildings are now protected.
